PYP Coordinator
Dear all,
Sekolah Tunas bangsa implements the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) from students aged 3 to 12. The school has been authorized to implement the IB-PYP since April 2008, and it has been evaluated for the first time by IB in June 2011.
In the implementation, we use the curriculum from IB as the framework and integrate the national curriculum into it, which includes language, mathematics, social studies, arts, science and technology, and physical, personal and social education. Each unit of inquiry developed in the curriculum allows students to investigate a central idea from different perspectives.
The PYP provides the six transdiciplinary themes to help students learn and acquire valuable skills that include social skills, thinking skills, research skills, communication skills and self-management skills.
By providing the safe and stimulating learning environment, we support students to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, caring, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, balanced and reflective.
The programme also promotes a set of attitudes that includes appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation, creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect and tolerance.
By developing the life skills, investigating the transdisciplinary themes and providing the various needs of the child's physical, social, intellectual or academic and cultural, the children can make connections between life in school, life at home and life in the world. By helping them make these connections and see that learning is connected to life, we intend to establish a strong foundation for their future learning.
